New York, NY – The Museum of American Finance has received a grant from ING to provide free visits to 15 classes from New York City Title 1 schools in the 2011-2012 academic year. Class visits include a guided tour of the Museum, as well as a customized classroom experience that supplements the tour program. The grant also subsidizes transportation costs and lunch for the participating schools, which will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
The Museum launched its Center for Financial Education in 2010. Since then, more than 150 groups have participated in its classroom programs, which range from a money themed show-and-tell for elementary students to lessons on how to value a stock for high school and college students. The 10 courses are tailored to each class and are taught by trained museum educators and finance industry professionals. Tours of the Museum’s timely temporary exhibits, on such topics as “Tracking the Credit Crisis,” “Scandal!” and “Women of Wall Street,” as well as its permanent exhibits on the financial markets, money, banking, entrepreneurship and Alexander Hamilton, round out the educational experience.
