Financial Fridays: Museum of American Finance

Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy

What compelled you to take up the financial literacy cause and what keeps you going?
Founded in 1989, our Museum has a 36-year track record of creating engaging, state-of-the-art exhibits, and we are dedicated to educating the public on finance and financial history through our financial literacy programs and public events. Our mission is to improve understanding of the influence of financial institutions and capital markets on the US and global economies, and on individuals’ lives. An affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, we seek to empower individuals of all backgrounds to strive toward financial independence, while encouraging curiosity and discovery.

What exciting things are you currently working on?
In March, we signed a 10-year lease for new exhibit space in Boston. Planning is now underway to develop and create our exhibits at Commonwealth Pier, the waterfront destination in Boston’s Seaport. We will occupy approximately 5,400 sf, with an additional 2,300 sf community room adjacent to our exhibit hall that will be available for classes and public programs. Exhibits are scheduled to open to the public in July 2026. Entrance to all of our exhibits and programs in Boston will be free of charge—reflecting our core mission of making financial education accessible to all. Our opening in Boston marks the first time we will have a permanent exhibit headquarters since we left our former home at 48 Wall Street in New York City in 2018.
