Verne Sedlacek served as President and CEO and Board Member of Commonfund from 2003 to 2015. Commonfund is an institutional investment firm founded in 1969 as a non-profit organization to provide both educational programs and investment services for the not-for-profit industry. At the time of his departure, the firm managed approximately $25 billion of assets for nearly 1,500 institutions. He joined Commonfund in 2002 as Executive Vice President and COO. Prior to Commonfund, Verne was President of John W. Henry & Company, Inc., a large alternative investment manager. Previously he served as the Executive Vice President and CFO for the Harvard Management Company and as an Audit Manger at Arthur Andersen & Co. He is currently a Senior Fellow with the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust in Vancouver, Washington.
Verne has also served on many not-for-profit and for-profit boards including the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He currently serves on the boards of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, where he chairs the Committee on Enterprise Risk Management, and at Valparaiso University, where he is a member of the Samsung Global Investment Advisory Council (SGIAC). He is a member of the Dean's Advisory Board of the Ancell School of Business at Western Connecticut State University and is on the Investment Committee of The William Penn Foundation. In 2013, National Association of College and University Business Officers awarded Verne the Rodney H. Adams Endowment Award for his outstanding individual contributions to professional development activities in the area of university endowment and investment management.
Verne earned an AB in Economics from Princeton University and was certified as a CPA by the State of New York in 1978. He has been a member of the Museum's Board of Trustees since 2015, and he is a co-chair of the Museum's Strategic Planning Committee.
