Mark J. Higgins
Mark J. Higgins is the author of Investing in U.S. Financial History and a senior vice president at Index Fund Advisors. His primary objective is to advance the use of applied financial history, which leverages insights from historical market cycles to improve decision making among investors, policymakers, and regulators. Through his work, he seeks to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world practice.
Mark has published dozens of articles that draw on financial history to inform present decisions, with work featured in the Museum of American Finance’s Financial History magazine, the CFA Institute’s Enterprising Investor, and the Wall Street Journal special USA250 series. He is also a frequent speaker in the United States and internationally on topics related to financial history and investment management.
Mark graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from Georgetown University and holds an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. He is a CFA charter holder and CFP practitioner. He has been a member of the Financial History editorial board since 2024 and is a guest curator of the Museum’s exhibits in Boston.
