Job Description
The Museum of American Finance is preparing to welcome docent volunteers at its new home on Commonwealth Pier in the Boston Seaport. Trainees will learn about the Museum’s exhibits, programs and activities. When training is complete, the new docents will be ready to lead tours for Museum visitors, especially students from the Boston area.

- You love to learn. If learning new facts about art, history and finance sounds interesting to you, being a docent will provide you with opportunities to discover new information, often by viewing original artifacts.
- Sharing your knowledge excites you. It’s one thing to know information, but if you find yourself saying, “Did you know…?” to friends and family, becoming a docent will allow you to share facts and ideas with Museum visitors.
- You seek volunteer efforts that will make a difference. Most people agree that the community is a better place when volunteers step up to help others. Our docents often feel that way and realize that working with students and visitors enriches the lives of others.
- You are a creative thinker and doer. Docents are encouraged to bring their own enthusiasm and presentation skills to their tours. Although the training and basic information is the same for all docents, no two people present a tour exactly the same way.
- You enjoy making new friends. Docents enjoy working and spending time together and interacting with a wide variety of visitors. We welcome docents as members of the MoAF family, and you will find yourself part of a great group of friends and colleagues.
Requirements
The main requirements for this position are reliability, interest in finance and/or history and excellent people skills. We are particularly looking for volunteers who can commit to a regular schedule (such as one day or one half-day per week). This position is ideal for retirees and college students.
