About the Speaker
William Hogeland was born in Virginia and raised in Brooklyn, New York. His most recent book is Declaration (June 1, 2010, Simon & Schuster), a narrative history of the little-known political adventure in the weeks before America declared independence. He is the author of another narrative history, The Whiskey Rebellion (Scribner, 2006), and a collection of essays, Inventing American History (MIT Press, 2009), as well as two plays, a co-authored screenplay and a novel, The Surrender of Washington Hansen.
Hogeland has written on music, politics, history and culture for Slate, The Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times, Boston Review and American History Magazine. "Founding Finance," his series of posts for New Deal 2.0, was picked up by Salon, The Huffington Post, Naked Capitalism and others. His blog, "Hytsteriography," is at www.williamhogeland.com.
