FWA Celebrates International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month at Museum of American Finance

The Financial Women's Association of New York (FWA) is celebrating International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month during the month of March at the Museum of American Finance.

Sponsored by OppenheimerFunds, the FWA is proud to host two Free Saturdays at the Museum in honor of Women’s History Month on Saturday, March 4, 2017 and Saturday, March 11, 2017. All visitors to the Museum on these Free Saturdays will enjoy free admission to take in exhibits ranging from the Alexander Hamilton Room, which pays tribute to America’s first Secretary of the Treasury, to a special exhibit on the positive representation of Black people on commemorative currency, "For the Love of Money: Blacks on US Currency," which is on loan from the Museum of UnCut Funk.

Visitors can also enjoy an Entrepreneurs exhibit featuring a profile of the late Muriel ("Mickey") Siebert, the first woman to hold a seat on the New York Stock Exchange. Ms. Siebert, a trailblazer on Wall Street in many ways, was an FWA member and supporter, and the 1994 FWA Woman of the Year.

“The Museum of American Finance offers visitors a unique experience to learn more about the contributions made by people from across the financial industry,” said Katrin Dambrot, FWA President. “We are proud to continue our partnership with the Museum which brings Wall Street to life as we celebrate the great strides made by women and minorities, while recognizing that there is still more to achieve.”

In honor of International Women’s Day on March 8, the FWA will also partner with the Museum to offer FWA high school and college mentees and their mentors a course on US financial markets, which explores the genesis of US capital markets and their development to the present day, describing key events in our nation’s financial history and their influence on our evolution. This will be followed by a Museum Lunch & Learn program, “’Equity’ on Wall Street and on the Big Screen: Wall Street’s Gendered Culture in Real Life and in the Movies,” featuring Dr. Melissa Fisher, author of Wall Street Women, a history of women on Wall Street and of the FWA, and Candace (Candy) Straight, a former FWA president and the executive producer of the financial thriller “Equity,” which opened in theaters last July.

"We’re delighted to celebrate International Women’s Day with such an impactful experience for our mentees and our mentors,” said FWA Executive Director Ria Davis. “The FWA’s robust high school and college mentoring programs have reached more than 6,000 young professionals and students over the years. This remarkable accomplishment could only be realized with the support of the FWA’s President’s Circle corporate sponsors and our dedicated FWA mentors, who give so much of their time and their talent to educate the next generation of women leaders in the financial industry."
