This course will attempt to take some of the mystery out of the basics of bonds and investing in bonds. This session will explore the role of bonds in the financial markets and why they are important to our economy. The presentation will review the basic terminology of bonds, types of bonds, and the risk characteristics of bonds.
Topics include:
- Overview of the types bonds (Corporate bonds, U.S. government bonds, and municipal bonds)
- Types of risk in bond investmentsÂ
- How risk impacts return
- How bonds are rated and what ratings mean to investors
- Bond mutual funds – What they are and how they work
