Fall Graduate Exhibits and Archives Intern

Job Description:
The Museum is currently seeking qualified students with a background in museum studies for formal internships and informal resume-building opportunities working under the Exhibits and Archives Director. In the Museum the subject of finance is viewed largely from an historical perspective dealing with the history of the United States, New York, financial systems, currency, trading, transportation and technology. This is supported by the collection of objects and documents ranging from the 18th century to the present, as the Museum documents the current crisis.

Internships will primarily consist of re-cataloguing the archives using Past Perfect software, but will also include work in the galleries, exhibit research, hands-on experience preparing, installing, and dismantling exhibitions, as well as various other tasks. At this Museum, which has a small but growing staff, interns will have exposure to the different departments and generally have the opportunity to take on more responsibility than in larger museums.

In the fall of 2010, the Museum of American Finance will be launching two small exhibits, so students may have an opportunity to assist with these.

Qualifications:
Enrolled in or a graduate of a museum studies program or library/archive sciences program;

Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

Flexible and versatile; competency working in a team and other general computer experience is appreciated;

Comfort with Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as collection management database software.
